USGP not to return in 2009, but maybe 2010

UPDATE #3 Tony George told the Indy Star he has not spoken to F-1 boss Bernie Ecclestone about F1 returning to Indy, and he knows many in grand prix racing would rather race on either the East or West coasts. We predict that if Ecclestone gets it done, the race will be in Las Vegas, a place he has coveted for a long time.

09/07/08 This rumor is now changed to the year 2010 and upgraded from 'false' to 'speculation. The prospects for a return of a Formula One race in the United States have improved after Bernie Ecclestone held talks with F1 team principals in Belgium about putting the event back on the calendar in 2010, autosport.com reports. As the article reports, the USA market is vital to most of the teams because the USA is the biggest market for manufacturers who support them (plus American sponsors like AT&T and HP). However, the teams want a race on either the West or East coast, not Indy, which is a small market for them.

06/25/08 This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today as the FOX TV announcers were wrong. Here is the 2009 F1 schedule.

06/23/08 According to the FOX TV announcers during the broadcast of the French GP Sunday, the USGP looks pretty certain to return to Indianapolis in 2009. Recall previous rumors that Tony George wanted the race back in time for the 100-year anniversary celebration of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
