Teams to use ‘mini-KERS’ at some races?

(GMM) Some teams may be planning a partial deployment of KERS systems in 2009, according to a report in the Spanish press.

The sports newspaper Marca claims that some teams have calculated that because the benefit of the energy-reuse technology will be limited at some circuits, it may be wiser not to use a heavy and fully-functioning KERS unit all of the time.

However, a scaled-back version of the technology – presumably lighter and smaller – might be fitted to the cars simply to provide an acceleration boost off the grid at the start of grands prix.

"That is something that could be done," Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali is quoted as saying.
