Herta buys race team?

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. Bryan Herta is back in the Indy Racing League, although not as a driver. The former CART and IndyCar Series race winner has purchased the Firestone Indy Lights equipment of Playa del Racing for his new team, Bryan Herta Racing. Interestingly, the equipment was delivered to Vision Racing's shop in Indianapolis. Herta has not named a driver, or drivers, but expect that information to be forthcoming. Indy Star

01/25/09 The Editor of eFormulaCarNews.com (Rob Howden) reports that Bryan Herta has purchased Playa Del Racing and will operate a Firestone Indy Lights (FIL) entry out of the spacious Vision Racing garage.

Playa Del Racing traditionally fielded a single FIL car per season and also 1-2 IndyCar entries at the Indianapolis 500. The last known chassis inventory at Playa Del Racing was one Dallara FIL chassis [#12] and two Panoz IR5 IndyCar chassis [#21 and #31] both of which successfully qualified for the I500 grid in 2007.

No confirmation has been provided as of yet, but Herta remains adamant that he still wants to drive in 2009… "I am optimistic that 2009 will find me back in a good ride…the question is in which series?"
