Tracy to drive for KV Racing at 500

UPDATE Paul Tracy is poised to return to professional auto racing. According to Speed TV, the 41-year-old West Hill, Ont., native will announce the deal during this weekend's Indy Racing League stop in Long Beach, Calif. Tracy will compete in this year's Indianapolis 500 and a few other races on a limited schedule. Two likely candidates will probably be the Canadian stops on the IRL circuit (Toronto and Edmonton), Speed TV said.

04/13/09 Paul Tracy has not yet been officially signed to drive for KV Racing Technology in next month's Indianapolis 500, but that appears to be a formality at this point. A news conference is expected to be held Friday at the Long Beach (Calif.) Grand Prix. Tracy last competed in the 500 in 2002 when he finished second in controversial fashion to Helio Castroneves.

Tracy's team appealed the chief steward's decision that Castroneves was leading at the time of a second-turn accident involving Buddy Lazier and Laurent Redon, but Indy Racing League founder Tony George later upheld Brian Barnhart's ruling.

Tracy, who turned 40 in December, will be competing in his sixth 500. He drove in one IndyCar Series race last season, finishing fourth in Edmonton with Vision Racing.

KV's full-season driver is Mario Moraes. It is still possible that the team owned by Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser could have an additional car in the 500, either driven by Townsend Bell or Oriol Servia. Indy Star
