Halo device saved Charles Leclerc’s life at Spa

Fernando Alonso flew over the top of Charles Leclerc’s Sauber on Sunday in a dramatic opening to the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, but neither onboard camera really showed the admirable job done by the halo device.
Previously unseen footage from onboard Brandon Hartley’s Toro Rosso shows the hit taken by the halo from Alonso’s right front tire as it smashed down with immense force into the cockpit area. Arguments in the lead up to the 2018 season had focused on the aesthetic polarity of the attachment, but now it has likely saved a life.
