Bigger plate, bump drafting for Daytona

There is talk NASCAR plans to add engine horsepower, allow bump drafting and do away with the yellow-line rule for Speed Weeks at Daytona International Speedway. The consensus opinion among Sprint Cup Series competitors was positive during Saturday's Preseason Thunder Fan Fest at the Speedway.

"I think the bigger restrictor plate I think is a good thing," driver Scott Speed said. "It's good for everyone. I think it will allow us to race more. I think that was a clear decision."

"I think NASCAR is putting is back into our hands as drivers to take a little bit better care of each other out there on the racetrack," driver David Reutimann said. "I think there's some really good stuff going on."

"Letting us get after it a little bit more is a good thing," Truex said. "I think it'll be exciting for all of us. It'll be more fun for us drivers. I think we can kind of put it on the edge a little bit more.

"The yellow-line rule I think needs to stay, just my opinion. I think there is only 6 or 8 feet from the yellow line to the grass. Where do you go when you get in the grass? You've got to keep the cars out of the grass somehow because that would be bad."

NASCAR is expected to announce several rules changes for its marquee stock-car series Thursday during its annual media tour in the Charlotte, N.C., area. Daytona Beach News Journal
