No new car or engine for IRL in 2012
"I'm all about saving costs right now for all the teams," said Roger Penske who pretty much always his way in the IRL paddock. "There's nothing wrong with the sport right now. I'm not sure that if we changed engines in the cars right now that it's going to put 50,000 more people in the stands. We need to promote the drivers and the teams and the sponsors."
Penske lost his Marlboro backing after last year so part of the team is funded out of the Billionaire's huge bank account. However, rich people hate spending their own money if they do not have to, so with that do not look for a new car or engines for IndyCar until 2013 at the earliest.
Gil De Ferran said he would consider all of the variables before recommending how to proceed.
"In my mind the most important thing isn't the cost equation, it's the value equation," he said. "Obviously, value is revenue minus the cost. We need to understand better both sides of the equation."
