Penske to kill off Delta Wing Concept
Roger Penske has gone on record as saying the IRL should come out with a new engine for the existing ugly Dallara and to delay the new IndyCar chassis. If he gets his way (he usually does) the Delta Wing concept car will be history. You see the existing Dallara requires that the engine be a stressed member of the chassis and the engine has to be designed to withstand those forces, hence raising the cost of the engine.
The Delta Wing concept car calls for the engine to be a non-stressed component, thereby allowing lower cost engines to work.
Sure, the stronger engine made for the Dallara will work in the Delta Wing, but now you have an engine that is over-designed for the intended purpose.
