Mercedes to race ‘B’ car in Spain
"We have very good developments coming, and I cannot wait," said Nico Rosberg, whose teammate is the seven time world champion Michael Schumacher.
Germany's Auto Motor und Sport on Tuesday gave details about the major upgrade, set for debut at Barcelona next month.
Changes as fundamental as a revised wheelbase are reportedly part of the package, which will require the 'B' car to undergo all new FIA crash tests.
The report also said the weight distribution, rear suspension and the gearbox housing will be changed.
It is believed Mercedes would also like to slim the actual chassis instead of extending the wheelbase, but "the chassis is homologated. We cannot change it," team boss Ross Brawn is quoted as saying.
Schumacher added: "We will take a big step, but the others move forwards as well."
