Weather to impact Talladega weekend

UPDATE This rumor is now fact -see Home page.

04/24/10 Several lines of thunderstorms are expected to start rolling through Central Alabama on Friday night and continue Saturday with heavy rain, flash flooding, lightning, hail and tornadoes possible.

If the rain washes out Sprint Cup qualifying, the lineup for Sunday's race would be set by owner's points, which would give the pole to points leader Jimmie Johnson.

But the rain may also wash out the Aaron's 312 Nationwide Series race, which is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Saturday.

If that happens, it is likely the Nationwide race will have to be postponed until Monday. The Sprint Cup race on Sunday cannot be moved from its advertised start time and there would not be enough daylight following the Cup race to squeeze in the Nationwide race. Talladega does not have lights so a night race is not an option.
