Villeneuve to IndyCar
Totally unconfirmed rumors have former Indy 500 winner, CART champion and F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve in a second Newman Haas car from the Indy 500 onward. We'll believe it when we see it as Canadian Villeneuve has always thought himself to be too good for CART and IndyCar, as if it would be a step down for him. Well in fact it certainly beats pulling weeds in his vegetable garden, which is pretty much what he has been doing since being kicked out of F1. With that said it makes a lot of sense for Villeneuve to race in IndyCar because IndyCar has two races in Canada – Toronto and Edmonton – and the series certainly is on the upswing.
As for Newman Haas, Carl Haas isn’t well, and requires care. Paul Newman has passed into history. Mike Lanigan is gone. Bernadette (Bernie) is in charge now and has moved front and center.
