Atlanta loses one NASCAR race to Kentucky

AMS will keep its Labor Day race date on the 2011 schedule the track announced today. It's the first official move of what are expected to be many changes for the 2011 schedule. Kentucky Motor Speedway — a sister Speedway Motorsports Inc. track to Atlanta — is scheduled to host a news conference on August 10th where it is expected that it will announce a Sprint Cup race date for 2011.

In order for Kentucky to get a race, a SMI track would have to lose a race, and Atlanta had long been rumored to sacrifice a date. Speculation has also intensified that Las Vegas Motor Speedway, another SMI track, would get a second Cup race for 2011, and in order for that to happen another SMI track — possibly New Hampshire — would also have to give up a date.
