Van der Garde to f1?

GP2 driver Giedo van der Garde told GPUpdate.net that he is in talks with a selection of Formula 1 teams with regards to a possible full-time drive in 2011. The Dutchman, who has picked up three GP2 wins to date, highlights Virgin Racing and Lotus as two likely candidates.

After being crowned World Series by Renault Champion in 2008 before winning a trio of GP2 races for iSport on his way to finishing seventh overall last season, the unfortunate 25-year-old has been unable to enjoy victory so far in 2010 although he remains positive that F1 is an option.

“We are indeed in talks with some teams," the Addax man from Rhenen, who adds that the discussions are still in early stages, reports GPUpdate.net.

“Virgin and Lotus, for sure, but there are also other possibilities.

“Whether anything positive comes of it, time will tell, but Formula 1 is the main goal in my career and I want to race there. It's all still open, so we'll see."

The Netherlands has been deprived of a Formula 1 driver since Christijan Albers parted company with Spyker after the 2007 British Grand Prix
