Cape Motorsports is pleased to confirm American Reece Gold as their first driver for the 2019 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship. The 14-year-old is the reigning Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series champion and brings his $100,000 scholarship to the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires armed with an extremely successful seven-year karting resume. Gold has won top karting events and championships in the Florida Winter Tour, United States Pro Kart Series and Superkarts! USA Pro Tour. In 2018, he raced both karts and cars, winning at the SKUSA SummerNationals in the X30 Junior class in August while also scoring five victories in the 16 races in the Lucas Oil School of Racing program. Reece was on the podium in over 80% of the Lucas Oil series’ main events.
“We are extremely excited to have such a great young driver with huge potential on our team," offered Nicholas and Dominic Cape. “In the two test days that Reece completed, his development was very impressive. What also makes this a great signing for us both is his father – Mark Gold – was one of our first customers when we opened our race team back in the day. As a race team, we are now moving into our second generation of drivers, which is truly fantastic."
Gold graduated from karting to the Lucas Oil School of Racing in 2018 with a stellar Cadet and Junior karting resume. The Puerto Rico resident scored three straight Florida Winter Tour championships between 2014 and 2016, winning the crown in the Micro Max and Mini Max categories. In 2016, he also won the Mini Swift title in the ultra-competitive United States Pro Kart Series and topped the ROK Cup Midwest series. Gold was the Mini Swift vice-champion on the SKUSA Pro Tour in 2017 and was also the runner-up in the ROK Cup Florida Winter Tour Mini Rok category.
Gold’s first season in open wheel car racing with the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series this past year netted five wins, coming at NOLA Motorsports Park, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, NCM Motorsports Park and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
“I am so excited to be starting my USF2000 career with Cape Motorsports," Gold enthused. “Having won numerous championships, they are the “go-to" team. After several test days, I am so honored that they had the confidence in my abilities to give me this chance. I also would like to thank the Lucas Oil School of Racing for the scholarship towards USF2000 and, of course, my sponsor, The Ticket Clinic, for their unwavering support. I am looking forward to being part of another championship season."
Cape Motorsports, Gold and his soon-to-be-announced USF2000 teammates will be on-track at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 2-3 for official Spring Training ahead of the season opener at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 8-10.
