Singapore closes on MotoGP deal

MotoGP Chief Carmelo Ezpeleta has revealed Singapore could be added to the calendar in 2012. It follows his visit to the country last month to check out the 4 km track at the Changi Motorsports Hub, which is being built by SG Changi and is due to hold its first event in April 2012.

"I am happy to tell you things are proceeding smoothly for us to come to Singapore," Ezpeleta told Singapore’s Today newspaper.

"Once FIM – the governing body – approves the track for us, we can begin to talk terms with SG Changi about having MotoGP there and when the first race can be held."

The 'paper went on to quote SG Changi Director and General Manager Moto Sakuma, who revealed that FIM's Chief of Road Racing Claude Danis will visit Singapore later this month to give the $250 million development his 'final approval'.

The developers have had to tweak the design in order to ensure the run-off areas are sufficient for MotoGP.
