Fiat/Ferrari eyeing more involvement with USA motorsports
UPDATE Formula Abarth (formerly known as Formula Azzurra), is an open wheel racing series based in Italy and Europe. The first season was in 2005. During 2008 and 2009 the main Formula Azzurra category has been known as the Trofeo Alboreto. For 2010, Abarth have committed to a five-year initiative that will see the series being renamed Formula Abarth. The cars are akin to Star Mazda in terms of performance.
12/06/10 According to AutoRacing1.com sources in Italy, FIAT is considering starting a Formula Abarth Championship in USA in 2012 together with a Fiat 500 Abarth series after the introduction in USA of the Fiat 500. We hear that Fiat (and Ferrari who is behind with the Ferrari Drivers Academy) are looking at other racing possibilities in USA too, and that could include IndyCar.
In 2011 the Formula Abarth and Fiat 500 Abarth Championships will be already in Central America ( Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador), with a lot interest by Telmex, who sponsor Perez in GP2 and now Ferrari Drivers Academy driver.
