Leclerc Leads At Lunch Break On Day 2
Charles Leclerc is fastest so far, but Mercedes is sandbagging |
As it was on Day 1, Ferrari holds a commanding lead the second day of 2019 Formula 1 testing at Barcelona, with Charles Leclerc nearly a full second clear of the field.
Leclerc picked up where teammate Sebastian Vettel left off on day one, setting a 1m18.247s on the yellow-marked C3 tires, just 1/10th slower than the veteran.
The newbie made several attempts to better his time before lunch but failed each time.
Haas and Alfa Romeo made it a 1-2-3 sweep for Ferrari-power, with Kevin Magnussen putting in the second fastest time just before lunch.
Sandbagging Lewis Hamilton put in laps just to test durability and race pace while ride-buying Toro Rosso rookie Alexander Albon spun twice.
The Racing Point owners son Lance Stroll was the slowest of the drivers in action, completing 45 laps.
