Versus President Jamie Davis Reportedly Ousted, Replaced By NBC’s Flood

New majority owner Comcast is putting its own stamp on NBC Universal, as evidenced by a flurry of departures by high-ranking NBC executives. But when it comes to sports, NBC seems to be the one in charge.

An announcement is expected Wednesday that Versus president Jamie Davis will be relieved from his duties, Sports Business Daily reports.

Davis would be replaced by NBC Sports coordinating producer Sam Flood and NBC executive John Miller.

At least from the outside looking in, the move appears to be the latest evidence that the NBC side of the Comcast/NBC equation is taking the reigns in regards to sports.

While NBC executives Jeff Zucker, Angela Bromstead and Jeff Gaspin have departed the network in the wake of the Comcast deal, NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol has not only stayed on, but was named chairman of the new NBC Sports group, which oversees NBC Sports, Versus, The Golf Channel and Comcast's RSNs.

Now, NBC Sports officials have been installed at both Versus and The Golf Channel, where longtime NBC communications and marketing executive Mike McCarley is expected to be named president, filling the vacancy left by Page Thompson.

Considering NBC Sports' past glory, and even the current success of Sunday Night Football and the Olympic games, it looks as if Comcast is willing to defer to NBC's incumbents. Sports Media Watch
