Final Daytona 500 TV rating hits new low
Not only did a lot of cars go home wrecked, the TV ratings were in the dumper as well |
Fast-national viewership data shows that the Daytona 500 on Sunday drew another record-low TV audience. Fox drew 9.2 million viewers for this year’s race, which Denny Hamlin won. That is off slightly from 9.3 million for Austin Dillon’s win last year, which aired up against the Pyeongchang Games and had been the race’s lowest figure. Two years ago, Kurt Busch’s win drew 11.9 million viewers for a race that began an hour later than normal.
The fast national rating was a 5.3, which is flat from last year. The overnight figure was tracking to be up, but did not hold. This year’s sold-out race did draw a record streaming audience on Fox Sports Go (average minute audience of 53,293). Out-of-home Nielsen figures for Daytona will be available later this week.
