UPDATE #4 See related announcement today

03/19/11 We are upgrading this rumor to 'fact' as we hear Tony Kanaan has signed as KV Racing's third driver for 2011. His teammates will be Takuma Sato and EJ Viso.

03/10/11 SPEED.com can reports that Tony Kanaan is all but signed, sealed and delivered to the Indianapolis-based team co-owned by Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser.

Kanaan was traveling in his home country of Brazil and unavailable for comment but earlier this week he sent out a message on his Twitter account to his fans that said: “I will have a good ride in 2011."

KV Racing general manager Mark Johnson said Thursday evening:

“I don’t think it’s any secret we’d love to have Tony and we’ve been working hard to make it a reality but it’s still a work in progress."

03/07/11 Last night on SPEED CENTER Robin Miller reported that Kanaan was likely to end up with KV Racing.

03/07/11 During Carnival in Salvador, Tony Kanaan sent a message to his fans on Saturday. It ensures that he will compete in the Indy Racing League this year. Kanaan said the arrangement with a new team is near and that the announcement may come out next week.

"Everyone will be able to come watch the race here in Brazil, in Sao Paulo. I guarantee that I will be there," Kanaan said in an interview to Daniela Freitas.

Kanaan had been announced as a driver for De Ferran for 2011, but the team failed to obtain all the resources necessary to compete in the Indy and quit running this year. Kanaan was, therefore, without a car for the season, a problem which, according to Kanaan, is close to being resolved.

On our 2011 IndyCar Silly Season page above, we had Kanaan rumored to be going to the Dale Coyne team. Imagine if Coyne is able to land both Bourdais and Kanaan, he would have his strongest team to date.
