IndyCar to name new VP of Technology
03/21/11 Will Phillips, a respected engineer and designer with ties to open-wheel and sports cars, will be named vice president of technology for INDYCAR on Tuesday reports SPEEDTV.com.
"I cannot imagine a better candidate for that position," Mike Cannon told SPEEDTV.com, Cannon is a veteran engineer who is joining Tony Kanaan at KV Racing and who worked with Phillips at HVM for four years in Champ Car.
"Will is very, very bright, technically savvy, even-tempered and fair — a helluva package — and Tony Cotman hit a home run with this selection."
Cotman, who is in charge of the new car/engine package along with the rulebook for 2012, welcomed Phillips to his first day on the job Monday.
"I said here's all the problems, I'll check in later," laughed Cotman, who has spent the past four months working on the rules. "There may be a few people who still don't know him but he's very sharp and has a great reputation. "I think he'll be very good for Randy (Bernard) and the series."
