Nick Foster a future IndyCar driver?
Nick Foster has IndyCar dreams |
Nick Foster is chasing an IndyCar drive alongside fellow Australians Ryan Briscoe and Will Power, the rising Formula Ford star told SPEED News Australia on Wednesday.
Foster, 19, is widely tipped to take out the 2011 Formula Ford title after finishing third in the 2010 championship, but he is ambitious to drive at a much higher level.
Before that though, the Sonic pilot says he needed to improve his consistency and claim a Formula Ford driver.
"We were up and down a lot last year, so this year we need to stay up in the top one and two," Foster said.
Foster raced in New Zealand's Formula Toyota over the summer and says he learnt a lot in the higher category.
"I learnt a lot being over there," he said.
"You jump out of a Formula Ford into a Formula Toyota and they're cars on a whole different level. Then you race against drivers who are world class.
"Racing against those guys is a whole different level. There's a lot of aggression you don't see in Formula Ford."
The young Aussie says his driving ambition is IndyCar.
"I really have a passion for IndyCar and American racing.
"I'd like to make the step over there and with the right backing get there one day."
Foster has recently moved to Melbourne to concentrate on racing with the talent-spotting team.
After a brief summer stint in Formula Toyota over summer, Foster has returned to Australia intent on claiming the Formula Ford title and following fellow Aussies Will Power and Ryan Briscoe to IndyCar success in the USA.
