Crawford and Lola eye Rolex Series
Two additional racecar constructors are considering building new Daytona Prototypes to the revised Grand-Am rulebook set for next season. Grand-Am vice president Dave Spitzer insists that the new rules, which allow smaller cockpit areas, are on course to revitalize the Daytona Prototype category.
"The whole point of the new bodywork is to inject new energy into the prototype class," he said. "There is interest from new constructors; a couple of parties have made inquiries that could go further."
Spitzer suggested that a newcomer could be on the grid next season if it took over one of the DP designs not currently on the grid. Those include the Crawford and the Lola (the rights to which are held by ProtoAuto), both of which have not ruled out a return.
The three DP builders whose "constructor licenses" remain valid–Riley, Dallara and Coyote–are producing revised bodywork, according to Grand-Am. AutoWeek
