China still in play for IndyCar for 2013
As we spelled out in this article in June, an IndyCar race in China is not out of the question for 2013. A call to our contacts in the China government tell us that the government is keen on getting this done to restore face for the country. They feel the cancellation was a real set back in relations with the U.S. and a black eye for China. As was the case with the Olympics, they like to show the world that they can get things done. In short, the Central Government wants this fixed ASAP. As you would expect, the Series is keeping an open mind but their expectations are much higher for approval of a new event. Check in hand, etc.. before any public acknowledgement. So add China to the possible list of new venues in 2013. It is one of the reasons IndyCar is waiting as late as possible on a schedule announcement.
