MacNeil, Vilander, and Smith to Drive WeatherTech Racing Ferrari at Le Mans

Looking to add to a dominate podium streak at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE class, Scuderia Corsa will return to the famed Circuit de la Sarthe in 2019 with an all-star lineup.

The No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTE entry is driven by WeatherTech Racing Driver Cooper MacNeil, entering his sixth Le Mans after a third-place finish with Scuderia Corsa in 2017, Ferrari Factory Driver Toni Vilander, two-time 24 hour of Le Mans winner in his eleventh appearance at the famed endurance event and veteran Ferrari driver Robert Smith, who competed and won at Le Mans in 2017 with the Ferrari 488.

The team has a multitude of confidence in combining the driver's experience with the preparation of its Scuderia Corsa WeatherTech Ferrari for the June race as it aims for a 4th consecutive podium at the legendary twice-around-the-clock.

For Team Owner Giacomo Mattioli the invitation to once again prove Scuderia Corsa is a top competitor among the world's elite teams is a welcome one.

"The opportunity to once again compete in the most famous sports car race in the world is a great honor," stated Mattioli. "To debut in 2015 with a podium, and win the following year was an absolute dream-come-true. We defended the win with another podium proving a 100% podium ratio. To return with a solid lineup of drivers who have all succeeded behind the wheel of a Ferrari at Le Mans has us very much looking forward to be a part of a winning effort and having strong result."

For MacNeil his enthusiasm comes from his confidence in both the drivers and the team.

"I think we have the pieces to do well this year," MacNeil said. "We have our own entry, Toni Vilander, and we were able to get Rob Smith who won the race two years ago to run with us. Combining these three attributes with Scuderia Corsa running the car could be a winning combination."

For Vilander his own history of winning at Le Mans paired with his codriver's experience has him sure of success.

"This will be my eleventh Le Mans start, I have two wins, come second twice and finished third once," Vilander said. "The Ferrari is a well-balanced race car and works very well at Le Mans. I am looking forward to going back to Le Mans and having a good run.I have a feeling that with Cooper and Rob, with their experience, we will do well."

For Smith running with such an experienced team is promising and exciting.

"I am delighted to be joining such an amazing team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans," Smith said. "The race is the highlight of my 2019 season, and I think we should be very competitive indeed. Le Mans has always been the pinnacle of racing for me and I am delighted to be going back in 2019 with WeatherTech Racing."

The 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place June 12-16. Wednesday, June 12 features free practice sessions followed by qualifying on Thursday, June 13. Friday, June 14 offers fans an exciting opportunity to see drivers up close in the renowned driver's parade. Then its race day with the green flag set to drop Saturday, June 15 at 15h GMT.
