IndyCar is implementing the Advanced Frontal Protection Device (AFP) at this year's Indy races and today IndyCar President Jay Frye explained the purpose of the device to the media. We were there to listen in.

The AFP is causing increased turbulence in the cockpit causing the drivers to experience buffeting of the driver's helmet. The teams compensating by adding a small wicker just behind the AFP.
