November date for ’14 Russian Grand Prix
01/25/13 The inaugural Russian Grand Prix will be held in the month of November, according to Sochi's mayor, Anatoly Pakhomov. The 2014 race will therefore take place after the Winter Olympics, which is being staged at a new sports park in and around the circuit.
With three Grands Prix scheduled for November on the 2013 Formula 1 calendar, a significant reshuffle is likely when the Sochi event gets added to the roster next year.
"It will be held in November, after the Olympics," Pakhomov is quoted as saying by Reuters, before going on to explain: "The circuit’s construction is being closely monitored by the regional government. Everything is going according to plan."
Sochi, which is situated in the far southwest of Russia, has a daily mean temperature of little more than 10°C (50°F) in November, while it can also dip below freezing.
The venue signed a seven-year contract with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone in 2010.
