Vergne wins pole in Monaco
A happy Jean-Eric Vergne |
After a close Qualifying and Super Pole session on the Monaco harbor front, it was DS Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne who will start at the front of the grid after Nissan e.dams Oliver Rowland drops to fourth, despite clinching the Julius Baer Pole Position, due to a three place grid drop following on from Paris.
Starting behind JEV is Panasonic Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans, who came under investigation during the session.
Evans is likely to start the 2019 Monaco E-Prix in 12th following a ten place grid penalty.
After powering his Jaguar I-Type 3 up to 250kW too early during the Super Pole session, the Kiwi driver received a formal reprimand. With that making three formal reprimands this season, the Jaguar driver is hit with a 10 place grid drop in accordance with article 18.2.
After Evans claimed both his and his team's maiden victory in Rome earlier this season, the penalty is a major blow for the Kiwi as a potential podium finish in Monaco slips away.
Qualifying in third is Mahindra Racing's rookie driver Pascal Wehrlein. With Rowland down to fourth, home race hero and Venturi driver Massa holds a provisional fifth, followed by Nissan e.dams and former Monaco winner Sebastien Buemi rounding off the Super Pole group in sixth.
Monaco |
Just missing out on Super Pole was BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Alex Sims who provisionally starts the race in Monaco in seventh. Behind him is fellow Brit is Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Alex Lynn and BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Antonio Felix da Costa in ninth. Rounding off the top ten is Geox Dragon's Jose-Maria Lopez.
Starting in 11th is HWA Racelab's Stoffel Vandoorne followed by Envision Virgin Racing's Robin Frijns, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Lucas di Grassi and Geox Dragon's Max Gunther in 14th.
Behind Gunther is Envision's Bird who sits ahead of NIO's Oliver Turvey and Audi's Daniel Abt in 17th. Despite Qualifying ahead of Abt, Mahindra's Jerome d'Ambrosio will start the race in 20th, following his three place grid penalty from Paris.
Starting at the back of the pack is DS Techeetah's Andre Lotterer, who scuppered his chances of a good start after making a costly mistake in Qualifying.
