Marco Andretti: Third generation Lola racer!
Marco Andretti will become the third generation from his famous family to grace the famous La Sarthe track next weekend.
The 24 year old will just have had time to draw breath after hot footing it from the Texas IRL race, itself held just one weekend after the Indy 500, to France to make his race debut for the Rebellion Racing team in the number 12 Lola-Rebellion.
Partnering with his former A1 GP adversaries Neel Jani and Nico Prost, Andretti appreciates the significance of following in his father and Grandfathers footsteps.
“I have always wanted to be part of the Le Mans 24 Hours," says Marco. “It has so much history in the sport and a lot of history with my family. I had enjoyed myself way too much driving the Acura P2 car to not want to keep driving sports cars.
Although he got to grips with the Lola-Rebellion LMP1 Coupe at Paul Ricard in March, Marco will respect the daunting 8.47 mile track, saying: “You just have to feel it out, I know the layout more or less from track maps so I will just sneak up on it and learn it quickly, but it shouldn't take long. Everyone I have spoken to has said it’s very fun and flowing, a rhythm track and that there is a lot of time to be found in the Porsche curves. “
Andretti is sure to feature time and time again at Le Mans in the future. Although he is firmly fixed on winning the IRL title and the Indy 500, he appreciates the significant part that Lola has played in the success of his forefathers over the years.
“Of course I know all about Lola with the history and success it had with my family in the past, we even had a pet cat named Lola!"
