Rossi confirms free agency after 2019 IndyCar season

Alexander Rossi, driver of the No. 27 for Andretti Autosport, confirmed to reporters Wednesday that his current contract expires at the end of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season.
Rossi has been with Andretti Autosport since the 2016 season when he won the Indy 500 in his rookie year, but Roger Penske and Team Penske have expressed interest in luring him over for the 2020 season.
The 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner is no stranger to the Team Penske as he signed on to drive the No. 7 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 12 hours of Sebring.
Despite the rumors and contract negotiations, Rossi is focused on running well in the 103rdrunning of the Indianapolis 500.
“We’re just trying to get through this month and get through the year and somehow catch this guy to my left (Josef Newgarden)," Rossi said Wednesday.
“I feel like any conversations and things about the future are pretty irrelevant and very distracting for the goal of what we’re trying to accomplish, and that’s to win a championship and to try and get some redemption on what we felt we kind of gave away last year. So that’s our main focus, my main priority, and I hope that everyone else in the organization is the same way."
