Andretti to field seven cars?

Could Andretti Autosport really field as many as seven Indy cars in 2014? Yeah, it's possible based on all the deals Michael Andretti said he is working on.

Andretti confirmed to Autoweek that he recently spoke to Juan Pablo Montoya about joining the Indianapolis-based team. Andretti said he'd “absolutely" sign the 1999 CART champion and 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner if he could land a sponsor for the car.

“We've just got to figure out how to make it work," Andretti told Autoweek. “If we could find a sponsor, absolutely we'd do it.

“But right now there's nothing to report."

Montoya is believed to also be interested in other teams, in NASCAR as well as IndyCar.

Andretti's team could have more flexibility if James Hinchcliffe isn't re-signed. That deal hinges on GoDaddy returning to fund the program. According to the Associated Press, GoDaddy is in the final year of its IndyCar contract with Andretti Autosport and Hinchcliffe.

Andretti Autosport also has Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti for next year, and Andretti said the team is close to getting E.J. Viso back in the fold and Indy Lights driver (and 500 runner-up) Carlos Munoz signed for IndyCar next season.

The additional car, if it comes to fruition, will be for Kurt Busch in next year's 500. Andretti said there's been no movement of late regarding a sponsor, which is the key to the deal. AutoWeek
