Qualifying Day 2 at Indy Schedule Change (Update)
McLaren and Alonso sent packing |
UPDATE
Per IndyCar — and the cars are rolling out now — the Last Row shootout will start at 4:30. The Fast Nine will start immediately after that, weather permitting.Lucille Dust and Tim Wohlford reporting live from Indianapolis
05/19/19 IndyCar and IMS have given up on guessing at a schedule. What we know is that the sun is shining, and the track vehicles are making laps on the track to try to dry the track. Assuming that it takes 2 hours to dry the track, we would be poised for a 5:00 Last Row shootout.
In completely related news, the weather people are calling for the rains to return at 5:00 pm……

05/19/19 IMS and IndyCar still hold out hope that both the Fast 9 shootout and the Last Row shootout will be held today. There will be no Fast 9 practice. While the heavy rains have pushed through the area for now, the sprinkles remain. Local weather forecasts have strong thunderstorms moving in around 4:30. Which means (doing the math) if the rain stops now, and it takes 3 hours to dry the track….

And…. IMS just noticed that it's raining again. The track trucks pulling the jet dryers have their wipers on. Scratch that 12:45 practice session…
Lucille Dust and Tim Wohlford reporting live from Indianapolis
IMS just announced that they expect "cars on the track" at 12:45 (practice for the Fast 9). The Last Row Shootout starts 1:45, weather permitting. The rain so far has been light, and dryers are out on the track.
Lucille Dust and Tim Wohlford reporting live from Indianapolis
05/19/19 The weather has closed in at Indy. Rain has soaked the track, with drips coming off of the Pagoda. The TV coverage is fascinated with Marco and Conor having their daily jog around the track.
Before the rain fell, Fernando Alonso was forced to abort his practice run when the car started bottoming out on the track. Hinchcliffe lead practice, followed by Sage Karam, Max Chilton, Pato O'Ward, and then Alonso. Kyle Kaiser's team chose not to practice.
