Dominant McLaughlin makes it three in a row

Supercars Champion Scott McLaughlin’s irrepressible form has no signs of stopping anytime soon after a two-from-two at the Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint, increasing his overall title lead.

His freakish form has delivered ten wins from 14 starts with today’s little more than a canter for the Shell V-Power Ford Mustang from ARMOR ALL Pole Position.

With one more win already this year than his Championship season last year McLaughlin joins Glenn Seton (1997), Craig Lowndes (2000) and Jamie Whincup (2011) on ten wins in a season.

Should his current form continue the all-time record of 16 race wins set by Lowndes in 1996 may well be within reach with 17 races still remaining in the season.

His comfortable win over team-mate Fabian Coulthard was faultless from his perfect start to the team strategy and two well executed pit stops; and only one late safety car.

Coulthard too, was well up the road compared to Jamie Whincup in third. The two Mustangs were virtually in races of their own, in clean air and with no threats throughout until the late safety car.

Even then the two cleared out with six laps to go, sealing another 1-2 for the team.

Behind the Ford pair there were interesting battles throughout.

Whincup was third courtesy an undercut of David Reynolds in the pits with the two locked in battle in the closing laps following the safety car.

Lee Holdsworth was fifth ahead of Cameron Waters, Shane van Gisbergen, Scott Pye, Nick Percat and Chaz Mostert who recovered from last after two first lap excursions and a 15-second penalty.

McLaughlin now leads the Championship by 244 points from Coulthard heading into the 7th round of the year, the upcoming BetEasy Darwin Triple Crown which runs from 14-16 June.
