Ok, here’s the final weather update with about 35 minutes before the green flag drops in the 103rd Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Of course, this is Indiana, and the weather forecast seems to change every 30 seconds. But from where we sit at the moment, all indications are the Speedway will get an official race in today.
Granted, we still may get rain. But if the rain does come, we expect it to start no earlier than 2:20-2:30 p.m. And even if rain does delay the race, there appears to be an opening to finish the race after a delay.
So, if you’re asking this amateur weatherman, we have an official race today, and there is a good chance we complete 500 miles.

UPDATE It’s about 7:30 a.m. on a humid Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We just got back from breakfast at Honda Hospitality and the subject on everyone’s mind is of course, weather.
The morning rain, which was expected last evening has thus far held off. And our latest look at the weather indicates that rain should hold off prior to the scheduled green flag at 12:43 p.m. for the 103rd Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. That's the good news.
The bad news is, we expect it to start raining shortly thereafter. Depending on when you look at the radar (it seems to change every 30 seconds), it appears rain will begin sometime between 1:10-1:30 p.m. And while this amateur weather man cannot say exactly how long the storm will last or what the intensity will be, there appears to be a steady system behind that initial storm moving towards IMS from the west.
So, from where we sit now, the forecast appears to be the race starting, followed by a delay shortly thereafter. We’ll pass along more information as we receive it.

Good morning from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Today's 103rd running of the Indy 500 is being threatened by thunderstorms that include strong winds and hail. There is some lightning off in the distance but it is dry here at 5 am. It is humid and 73 degrees. From the radar, the early morning storms may miss the speedway.
There might be a break from the storms after 7 am but they are forecasted to return at 1 pm, shortly after the race is scheduled to start.
