Coyne to run Huertas at Indy (Update)

UPDATE One of the last remaining seats for next month's Indianapolis 500 is there for Carlos Huertas to take. His decision is expected this weekend, team owner Dale Coyne said Friday.

The 22-year-old Colombian came into 2014 thinking he would only drive on the road courses and street circuits. But he has had a respectable first two races, including a 10th-place finish in Long Beach.

Now he's thinking about an oval.

Asked about the possibility, Huertas smiled, which Coyne took to be a positive sign.

"He didn't frown," Coyne said.

If Huertas doesn't race, Coyne likely will turn to rookie James Davison, an Aussie who drove twice for the team last year.

Coyne said he "definitely" will field three cars in the 500, the others for Justin Wilson and likely Pippa Mann. IndyStar.com

04/25/14 Even though Carlos Huertas was announced by Dale Coyne Racing to be just doing the ovals, we now hear he has a good chance of doing the Indy 500. The rumored lineup for Coyne at Indy would then be Wilson, Mann and Huertas. Mark C. reporting from Long Beach
