Red River joins forces with Spirit of Race & Ferrari for WEC
Red River Sport client, Bonamy Grimes will be the principle driver with the 8 race campaign being very much built around him.
The FIA WEC starts at Silverstone UK in September 2019, going on to race in Fuji Japan, Bahrain, Shangahi China, Interlagos Brazil, Sebring USA, and Spa Francorchamps Belgium‎ before culminating in June 2020 at the world famous Le Mans 24 hour race in France.
This campaign is the ultimate challenge for the gentleman driver , but it is a challenge that Johnny feels he is entirely ready for.
"Since Bon and I started working together ‎on his first ever trackday only four years ago, he has progressed incredibly quickly, not just in terms of his raw pace, but also his ability to cope with all the other elements that competing at the highest level in a motor race involves. " said Red River Sport co-founder Johnny Mowlem. "Bon has shown a commitment to this sport that is often comparable with the professional teammates that I've had in my past racing career. He has competed in a huge amount of events now in a wide variety of GT and LMP machinery ranging from Britcar and GT Cup, to the Asian Le Mans Series, and he is ready for this next challenge."
However neither Mowlem or Grimes are underestimating this next adventure, as despite Grimes championship success in the UK and podiums in the Asian Le Mans Series, the World Endurance Championship is the pinnacle of sportscar racing. They will compete in the GTE AM class of the championship where Grimes will get to measure himself against some of the best gentlemen drivers in the world.
"I've asked Johnny to continue our adventure by joining me with the Ferrari" commented Bon. "It's amazing how far we've come in such a short time, but I'm under no illusions that this is the ultimate challenge and I still have a lot to learn. But it should be a fantastic experience and I'm really looking forward to it."
