It was a move to retain his Formula One place, but without a single points finish Adrian Sutil’s move to Sauber has not paid off.

The German was set to lose his Force India seat with Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez in line, so absconded to Sauber which seemed like a sensible move at the time.

Sutil fared much better than his 2013 team-mate Paul Di Resta, who lost out on the drivers’ merry-go-round all together.

Sauber was the logical move as Hulkenberg had been recording some impressive results in the previous championship, most notably fifth in Italy and fourth in Korea.

It is yet to pay off for Sutil however, as he along with team-mate Esteban Gutierrez have not secured one top 10 finish between them in 12 attempts.

It must feel like Sutil’s last throw of the dice, as Sauber could be his final opportunity to retain a seat unless he proves he deserves it.

After eight years in the sport he still has not been given a car that he can mount a serious title challenge with, and this year’s car has not been much better.

A saving grace is Sauber’s ability to reduce the gap to the top teams, at the half way stage of last year’s championship they had only accumulated seven points, and ended with 57.

After Marussia’s ninth place in Monaco, only Sauber and Caterham still sit joint bottom of the championship on zero points, although they have not been cut totally adrift.

Toro Rosso and Lotus only have eight points to their names, and are still vulnerable should Sauber’s form pick up considerably.

As the most experienced driver Sutil should be able to capitalize as the season progresses, and put their rivals under pressure.

It is now all or nothing for the German, who needs to score points or risk losing his seat for good. Formula1fancast
