Eddie Cheever III going NASCAR route
Eddie Cheever Jr. came up through the European open-wheel ranks to run Formula One and capture the 1998 Indianapolis 500. His son, Eddie Cheever III, was taking the same path. But, earlier this year, Cheever abruptly diverted course and made a significant career change when he discovered the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The Euro Series emulates American-made, NASCAR-style racing with full-bodied, sedan-style cars with races in England, France, Spain, Italy and Germany. With the Formula One dream out of the way, Cheever hopes this new path takes him to the United States, where his stock-car training will be elevated. [And he is smart enough not to be forced to buy his ride in IndyCar]
Cheever hopes to have a NASCAR K&N Pro Series ride in the near future. K&N has been a major pipeline to NASCAR's national series in recent years."My goal is to become a professional driver," Cheever said. "If I'm good enough and have resources, Sprint Cup driver would be my dream." Daytona Beach News-Journal
