IndyCar to lose another American (Update)

UPDATE Seven-time GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Champions and five-time Rolex 24 At Daytona Winners Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) announced today that their development driver Sage Karam will join Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas in the driver lineup of the No. 01 Telcel Ford EcoBoost Prototype (P) for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International June 29.

Karam competed twice with CGRFS earlier this season in a second Prototype fielded in the TUSC Rolex 24 At Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring. He was most recently part of CGRFS’ No. 02 Prototype driver lineup with Verizon IndyCar Series Team Target drivers Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan, who earned the most points from Sebring’s three segments toward the season-ending $100,000 Patr¢n Endurance Cup for the P class with a sixth-place result.

06/11/14 Q on Racer.com: I heard a rumor from a crew member of DRR there is a big chance Sage Karam may go to NASCAR. Please tell me after his Indy 500 run that an IndyCar team will sign him next year? Nick from San Diego

Robin Miller: It wouldn’t surprise me. The kid has to be driving, not watching, at his age and I’m sure if Ganassi doesn’t give him a ride in IndyCar, he’ll be looking south.

[Editor's Note: It's the Open Wheel Cancer that is killing the sport. If you cannot 'buy' your ride you don't drive, no matter how talented. Do football players buy their spot on the NY Giants? Nope. Do baseball players buy their way into the NY Yankees lineup? Nope. Do you get to play hockey with the Philadelphia Flyers by handing the team owner a big check? Nope. Those are all sports. Racing is not a sport if the drivers have to buy their ride. Period.]
