John Barnes sues the United States?
Panther Racing lost the lucrative National Guard sponsorship after last season. However, the ugly saga appears to be dragging on, with no end in sight. |
You know, we consider ourselves pretty knowledgeable about the ways of the world here at AutoRacing1. But just when you think you've seen it all, what happens? Panther Racing owner John Barnes decides to sue the United States of America.
Yes, you read that correct. In the ongoing saga over the National Guard sponsorship moving from Panther to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for the 2014 season, RACER's Robin Miller is reporting that Barnes is now "suing the United States of America."
This, of course, begs the question: can you actually sue the United States of America? And is Barnes, who for years talked openly about the honor of representing the fine people of The National Guard, suing the United States of America, because he wants what's best for the troops?
All kidding aside, it appears this is the latest installment of a sad saga, that has seemingly benefited no one. Barnes had to close shop on his team for the 2014 season. Sure, RLL secured a lucrative deal, but the team has struggled for results, and currently seems to be feeling the pressure of having to perform. Making matters worse, the team finds itself, along with the series, the nation, and seemingly everyone but Mickey Mouse dealing with the cloud of pending litigation.
There are a lot of directions one can go with this. However, we'll just leave you with Brian Carroccio's rather unique take on the Guard sponsorship, and pending litigation.
