Caterham charge each ride-buyer $400K per race
Roberto Merhi latest ride-buyer to help keep Caterham afloat. Do you think you could write a check to play football for the Dallas Cowboys? Of course not, football is a real sport. |
Caterham could have another new driver at Monza next week with Spanish media claiming Roberto Merhi is in line to step into the car.
The Leafield-based squad surprised everyone at Spa last time out when they replaced the experienced Kamui Kobayashi with three-time Le Mans winner Andre Lotterer.
The German has admitted his drive was a one-off experience and many expected Kobayashi would be back in the cockpit of the CT05 at the Italian Grand Prix next weekend, but that may not be the case.
Caterham are reportedly asking $400,000 per race and Spaniard Merhi, who is currently second in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, is ready to fork out the money.
"It's not 100% sure yet that I will run at Monza, but chances are good, provided that I get the super license on time," the 23-year-old told Marca.com.
"I'm focused on being able to win the [Renault] Championship of the World Series and if I can participate in F1 it will be a nice prize, although it is not a priority in this season."
