Andretti to branch out into Pirelli World Challenge (Update)
Multiple sources have indicated a customer effort is a more likely course of action, where Andretti would run the car or cars, rather than this being a fully blown Nissan factory effort.
Team principal Michael Andretti confirmed interest in PWC when in New Orleans a couple weeks ago, helping to promote Andretti Sports Marketing's Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana that will run next April.
"We're always looking for sure," Andretti told Sportscar365. "There's a chance we could be involved in one or two of those (series) still, yet. We're hoping some things come through."
A team spokesperson also confirmed the team is open to running in all platforms.
10/01/14 Michael Andretti could be branching out into the world of GT racing if his current efforts come to fruition rumors Racer.com. Talks with manufacturers regarding a Pirelli World Challenge are ongoing, with a factory Nissan GTR campaign said to be among the possibilities.
"We are looking at all kinds of different [series] options, and that's one," Andretti told RACER. "We've been really impressed. I can't think of any series that has that many manufacturers involved right now, so that's something we're looking at. If we find the right deal, we're interested in doing it, and we're talking to more than one manufacturer so it isn't fair to say we're only talking to Nissan. We're looking at all the series, frankly, where there's an opportunity, and we like what we're seeing with World Challenge right now."
Andretti is a businessman and he will take his team into any series where he feels he can make money. He currently fields cars in IndyCar, the IndyCar ladder series, Formula E and in the past fielded cars in what is not the Tudor series for Honda.
