Marco Andretti to run more Formula E races
Marco Andretti looks set for more Formula E races |
As you can see from yesterday's IndyCar News and Notes, Michael Andretti expects son Marco to compete at the Miami and Long Beach rounds of the FIA Formula E Championship. After it was announced regular Andretti Formula E driver Franck Montagny tested positive for a cocaine derivative, Marco Andretti filled in at the recent Buenos Aires ePrix, qualifying 17th and finishing 12th.
After the races in Miami and Long Beach, the Formula E schedule conflicts with the Marco Andretti's regular Verizon IndyCar Series work.
Andretti Formula E has fielded a series-high five different drivers in the first four events of the all-electric racing. Montagny finished second in Beijing, with Charles Pic coming home fourth. Mazda Road to Indy star Matthew Brabham ran the Putrajaya round alongside Montagny, then at Punta del Este in tandem with Scuderia Ferrari tester Jean-Eric Vergne. Vergne earned a stunning pole position in his debut at Punta del Este and was in contention for the win prior to his car expiring on the penultimate lap.
Vergne then teamed with Andretti at Buenos Aires, and came home sixth.
Andretti Formula E sits fifth in the team championship with 41 points, 44 behind leaders e.dams-Renault. Despite his indefinite ban, Montagny remains the team's highest points earner, and sits ninth in the championship with 18 points.
