Will PGA golf event step on Boston IndyCar race?
In 2016, another event will call on Boston over Labor Day weekend. The Verizon IndyCar Series announced this week that its season finale next year will be the Grand Prix of Boston, run over a temporary street course in South Boston.
The race will be on Sept. 4, 2016. Assuming the Deutsche Bank Championship maintains its customary spot on the PGA Tour schedule, that will be the same day as the third round of the golf tournament. The final round will be held the next day, Sept. 5.
“The Deutsche Bank Championship has proudly served as a Labor Day tradition in New England for over a decade, and we’re excited to welcome the Grand Prix to Boston’s thriving sports community," said Mike Antolini, the DBC’s championship director.
According to Antolini, total attendance for the 2014 DBC was 130,251.
