Ford announcing “major news” for this Friday (Update)

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' with today's announcement.

06/10/15 Word has it that Ford is planning to make a "major Ford Performance news announcement" this weekend, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Ford isn’t really looking forward towards telling us what this "major news" will be before this weekend but rumor has it that the performance division of the company will pull the wraps off a racing version of the new GT supercar. The vehicle in question has already begun testing in Canada, last month, and it is expected to be quite different than its road legal brother and to receive an updated and more aerodynamic exterior design, along with a stripped out interior and the 3.5 liter V6 engine under its hood.

At this point, we don’t even know what the official output of the new Ford GT generation is but according to a recent report, the supercar should be producing at least 600 HP (515 kW) from a 3.5 liter twin turbo V6 EcoBoost engine. Besides the smaller and more powerful unit, Ford has also updated the supercar with forged aluminum wheels, with carbon ceramic rotors signed by Brembo, with active aerodynamics, variable damping, four distinct driving modes, the Normal, Sport, Track and Wet, an advanced traction system, stability control programs and so on. Additional details on the new Ford GT racer or on its road-legal brother are limited at this time.
