Kurt Busch under investigation for domestic violence

In a situation that can only be described as shocking, it appears that NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kurt Busch is under investigation, by the Dover-Delaware Police Department, following allegations of an act of domestic violence against the driver's former girlfriend Patricia Driscoll.

The allegations state that the incident occurred inside of Kurt Busch's private motorhome during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing weekend at the Dover International Raceway held the last weekend in September. The couple were reported to have recently discontinued a full time relationship that began back in 2011. No other details have been released by investigating authorities.

As the word of this situation slowly leaked out, the Dover Police Department received a large amount of media inquires which prompted them to issue the following press release on Thursday, November 7th:

"The Dover Police Department can confirm that an investigation is being conducted based on an allegation of domestic assault that is alleged to have occurred in the City of Dover involving Mr. Busch. These allegations were brought to the Dover Police Department on Wednesday, November 5th at 2:00PM. At this time, the department is still investigating the victim's claims and will not have any further comment on this matter in order to preserve the integrity of the case."

"The Dover Police Department will release further information as it becomes available. We appreciate the public's and media's patience in this matter and are confident that the department is taking the proper investigative steps to ensure the case is resolved appropriately."

Also on November 5th came information that stated Busch has retained the services of high profile attorney Rusty Hardin. Incidentally, this is the same attorney that currently represents NFL Football player Adrian Peterson regarding child abuse allegations.

Responding to the allegations against Kurt Busch, attorney Hardin issued the following statement:

"The Dover Police Department has been informed that Mr. Busch will fully cooperate with their investigation and he expects to be vindicated when the entire truth of the situation comes to light. This allegation is a complete fabrication by a woman who has refused to accept the end of a relationship and Mr. Busch vehemently denies her allegations in every respect. At this time we intend to have no further comment in the media out of respect for the Dover Police Department's desire to conduct a thorough investigation without a media circus."

Driscoll, for the past ten years, has been the President of the Armed Forces Foundation, (AFF), a non profit organization that addresses issues and needs of U.S. service men and women along with their families. Busch, during the course of his personal relationship with Driscoll, joined that cause and assisted with public relations and fund raising.

Apparently the relationship between Busch and the AFF has ended according to a November 7th prepared statement issued by Pat LaFrieda, AFF Chairman of the Board:

"I want to, first and foremost, express the direct support from the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Foundation to Ms. Driscoll. For more than a decade, Ms. Driscoll has been a tireless worker and advocate for our nation's service members, veterans, and military families. The Foundation will continue working to support service members, veterans, and military families and we ask that Ms. Driscoll's privacy be respected. Given the serious nature of the allegations, the Foundation has suspended its association with Mr. Busch."

Busch is the driver of the #41 Haas CNC Chevrolet fielded by Stewart Haas Racing, (SHR). Mike Arning, official spokesman for SHR, issued this brief statement regarding allegations against their driver: "This is an allegation Stewart-Haas Racing takes very seriously, but we're still gathering all of the facts and are not in a position to comment in greater detail."

NASCAR also seems to be taking a wait and see position regarding allegations against Busch according to a November 7th statement issued by Brett Jewkes, NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer who said:

"NASCAR is aware of the investigation involving driver Kurt Busch. We recognize the seriousness of this matter and are actively gathering information from all parties, including law enforcement authorities and Stewart-Haas Racing. It would be inappropriate for NASCAR to comment further on this matter until we have more information."
