Robert Wickens and Karli Woods were married at the Lucas Estate in Carmel, Indiana Saturday.
For Wickens, the wedding presented the opportunity to honor a promise he made to both his new wife and himself, one which he told NBC Sports’ Kelli Servast in an interview that aired before IndyCar’s season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg in March.
“One of my main goals is that I need to be on my feet at my wedding," Wickens said in the interview. “That’s really almost what’s driving me more than getting back into an IndyCar.
In a photo he shared on Twitter Monday, the 30-year-old who is still recovering from a spinal cord injury sustained in an August 2018 IndyCar race crash at Pocono Raceway, was indeed standing.
Congratulations to the happy couple.
Many other members of the motorsport community were in attendance at the wedding, including Wickens’ best friend and NTT IndyCar Series driver James Hinchcliffe, as well as fellow drivers Marco Andretti and wife Marta, Max Chilton and wife Chloe, and Graham Rahal and wife Courtney Force.
