Logano and Pedregon swap rides for a day

NASCAR Sprint Cup star Joey Logano got a try out a slightly different ride than what he's used to on a typical NASCAR weekend when he got a chance to swap rides with NHRA Funny Car driver Cruz Pedregon for a run down the quarter-mile at zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C. on Wednesday.

Pedregon, a two-time NHRA Funny Car Champion, served as driving coach for Logano as he made a few passes in a Cobta Jet Ford Mustang while Logano showed Pedregon the ropes behind the wheel of a Ford Fusion Sprint Cup car.

Wednesday ride-swap was made possible by Snap-On Tools, which sponsor both Logano's no. 22 Ford Fusion and as well as the Toyota Funny Car of Pedregon. The NHRA will be in full force at zMax Dragway this weekend for the Sixth Annual Four-Wide Nationals kicking off on Friday.

Logano made a few practice runs with Pedregon riding shotgun before making three solo runs, after wards the two headed across the street to Charlotte Motor Speedway and made a few warmup laps in the no. 22 car before they cut Pedregon loose on his own on the 1.5-mile quad-oval.

"You don't really know what to expect. (Pedregon) fires it up, did a big burnout, and then we launched and the front wheels come off the ground and I screamed like little girl," said Logano. You get that feeling like you're on a roller coaster.

It was a pretty awesome experience for sure. I've been to several NHRA drag races and had the chance to stand on the starting line and feel the power those cars have. So to get a chance to take a couple of passes in the Cobra Jet was intense.

Logano also got a chance to sit in the cockpit of Pedregon's Funny Car as they fired up the 7,000-horsepower Nitromethane-powered engine.

"I can only imagine what it's like to sit behind the wheel of a race-ready Funny Car or Top Fuel Dragster, " said Logano. "Those of us who compete in a form of motorsports always wonder what it's like to drive another type of car. Hopefully, Cruz got that experience today. I know I did for sure."

[adinserter name="GOOGLE AD"]For Pedregon, who started his racing career driving go-karts, turning left – or turning at all, for that matter – was something he doesn't get to do most weekends.

"There's nothing I love more than drag racing," Pedregon said. "But I got my start racing a truck, and I really like any professional opportunity that allows me to get behind a wheel and put my racing expertise to the test. Joey's got the skills and intuition that far exceed his years, and I had a lot of fun turning left for a day."
