Vettel takes decisive win in Hungary

Sebastian Vettel ties Ayrton Senna with 41 wins

4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel drove a perfect race to win the Hungarian GP for Ferrari, his 2nd win of 2015 while his opponents made numerous mistakes behind him. Vettel took the lead at the start from pole sitter Lewis Hamilton and led all the way except for pitstops.

21-year old Russian Daniil Kvyat brought his Red Bull home 2nd ahead of his teammate Daniel Riccardo.

Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top-5.

The tight Hungaroring always makes for a mistake strewn, wheel-banging exciting race and 2015 was no different as this was certainly the most exciting F1 race this year with action from start to finish up and down the field.

[adinserter name="GOOGLE AD"]Lewis Hamilton fell back to 4th at the start as both Ferraris and his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg stormed past in turn 1.

Hamilton then made a mistake and went off track putting his back to 10th and from there his race went downhill because it is so hard to pass in Hungary without taking big risks that usually involve some rubbing of tires or worse.

However, he battled back to 6th when others in front of him made their own mistakes and gained points on Rosberg when the German suffered a flat tire thanks to Daniel Ricciardo's front wing and finished 8th instead of 2nd behind Vettel.

Vettel would have won by a much wider margin had it not been for a caution flag when Nico Hulkenberg's Force India suffered a spectacular front wing failure, sending the German head-on into the Turn 1 tire barrier. Vettel saw his 30 second advantage wiped out when the Safety Car came out on lap 42 for the debris all over the track.

On a track where Mercedes HP advantage was neutralized by the tight track, Vettel had the pace over Mercedes all race and, until Raikkonen fell back with a failed MGU, the two Ferraris were pulling away from the Mercedes cars.

With his win Vettel ties Ayrton Senna for third on the all-time list with 41 F1 race wins. Vettel climbed from his car and waved two flags – a Ferrari one and an Italian one – as the crowd roared Vettel's first ever win in Hungary.

The mistake-strewn second-half of the race allowed Fernando Alonso to finish fifth, scoring McLaren-Honda's best result of the season, with his teammate Jenson Button finishing ninth.

F1 now takes its traditional 4-week summer break and returns at the end of August at Spa.
