Rumors of Citroen DS brand coming to North America
Citroen DS5 |
Automobile Magazine is citing a "well-placed source" at PSA Peugeot Citroen, DS' parent company, that claims the brand would announce its entry to the United States on April 5.The timing gels with previous reports, but in that case, it was merely Bonnefont chatting about the US market. This anonymous source is actually saying the US market would be a focus of PSA's global expansion.
This isn't necessarily a surprise. PSA has been hinting that its DS brand could come to the US for a long time. We reported on the possibility in October 2014, and again in September 2015. We previously said it might take until 2020 for the brand to cross the Atlantic. An announcement in 2016 doesn't necessarily rule out that timeline, but it also doesn't guarantee it.
For those that need a refresher, DS was spun off from the main Citroen brand in 2014. It sells four different lines – DS3, DS4, DS5, and the Chinese-market DS6 – in a few different body styles. All four of those vehicles seem like reasonable candidates for the US market, although we somehow doubt that any firm decisions have been made.
